⚠️
Critical Warnings
🚢
Logistical Anomalies & Infrastructure
-
Puerto Mágico terminal docks up to 3 ships simultaneously; overflow ships anchor and tender to the same terminal
-
Terminal is 3 miles NORTH of downtown—you need transport to reach the Malecón, El Centro, and Zona Romántica
-
Walking to downtown is possible (~1 hour) but impractical in the heat
-
Taxis inside the terminal gate cost MORE than yellow city taxis outside the gate
-
Uber works in PV (often cheaper than taxis)
🚕
Transport Tips
-
Yellow city taxis OUTSIDE port gate = cheaper
-
Bus to downtown: “Centro” bus (10 pesos/~$0.60)
-
Do NOT take “Tunel” buses—they bypass downtown
-
Return bus: look for “Marina” or “Walmart”
-
Agree on taxi fare BEFORE getting in (no meters)
🛡️
Safety & Comfort
-
PV is one of Mexico’s safest tourist cities
-
Malecón, El Centro, Zona Romántica well-policed
-
Use Uber or official taxis (not unmarked cabs)
-
Cobblestone streets everywhere—wear sturdy shoes
-
Hydrate! Heat and humidity are significant
💰
Money & Prices
-
Pesos get better value than USD everywhere
-
USD widely accepted (poor exchange rates)
-
ATMs in terminal area and at Walmart across street
-
Credit cards accepted downtown; 5% surcharge possible
-
Tipping: 10-15% at restaurants is customary
Getting Back to Your Ship: The Work-Backwards Method
Golden Rule:
Never plan to arrive “at the pier” at all-aboard time. Plan to be back in your cabin. Your ship’s all-aboard time is the LAST moment you can board—not when you should arrive.
Step-by-Step Calculation Example:
-
All-aboard time:
5:00pm
-
Subtract security (15min):
4:45pm
-
Subtract taxi from Malecón (20min + traffic):
4:25pm
-
Add safety buffer (30min):
3:55pm
RESULT: Leave Malecón by 3:55pm
-
Rush hour traffic (+20-30min)
-
Returning from south shore (+30min)
-
Multiple ships in port = taxi scarcity (+15min)
-
Ship tendering vs docked (+30min)
Typical Travel Times:
-
Malecón → Terminal: 10-20min taxi
-
Zona Romántica → Terminal: 15-25min
-
Mismaloya → Terminal: 30-40min
-
Botanical Garden → Terminal: 50-70min
