The Prodigy Verdict
The Prototype.
When Norwegian Prima launched, it was a radical departure from the massive Breakaway-Plus ships. It introduced a boutique hotel aesthetic, smaller passenger counts, and the industry-leading Ocean Boulevard. It feels significantly more upscale than the rest of the fleet. However, as the first in the class, it has some quirksโthe main pool deck is compact (offset by the infinity pools on Deck 8), and the buffet is smaller than usual (offset by the incredible Indulge Food Hall). It is a ship designed for travelers who want the variety of a big ship without the "mall" atmosphere.
- Design-conscious travelers who appreciate modern, neutral aesthetics.
- Food enthusiasts; the culinary options here are NCL's strongest.
- Solo travelers; the Studio complex is well-designed and social.
- Layout: The ship has a unique flow that can feel disjointed until you learn the "Deck 8 vs. Deck 17" split.
- Main Pool: If you are a dedicated sun-worshipper who needs a massive central pool, this might feel tight.
- Premium Pricing: Prima often commands a higher fare than older NCL ships.
The Zones
The ship is designed to bring you closer to the ocean. The "Ocean Boulevard" on Deck 8 is the heart of the vessel.
Ocean Boulevard
A 44,000 sq ft wraparound deck. It features glass bridges ("Oceanwalk"), infinity pools, and outdoor lounge areas that replace the traditional promenade.
Prima Speedway
The first three-level racetrack at sea. It spans three decks and features a straightaway that extends over the side of the ship.
Indulge Food Hall
Located aft on Deck 8. An upscale marketplace with tablet ordering. It offers everything from Indian curries to Southern BBQ in a casual setting.
The Drop
A 10-story dry slide on the side of the ship. It creates more G-force than a Formula 1 race car during acceleration.
Penrose Atrium
A three-story, glass-walled atrium designed to look like a modern art museum. It is asymmetrical and stunning, hosting the Whiskey Bar.
The Haven
Located at the aft of the ship. This exclusive complex features private elevators, a dedicated restaurant, and an infinity pool overlooking the wake.
Galaxy Pavilion
A high-tech VR playground. Features a "Topgolf" swing suite, racing simulators, and escape rooms. It is a paid attraction.
Prima Theater
A 3-story venue that converts from a theater to a nightclub. The seating retracts to open up a massive dance floor for late-night parties.
Dining & Provisions
The food on Prima is a step above the rest of the fleet, especially with the introduction of the Indulge Food Hall.
Indulge Food Hall
Global Market
The standout dining concept. Eleven stations serving everything from Indian thalis to Spanish tapas. Fast, free, and delicious.
Hudson's
Main Dining
The aft main dining room offering 270-degree views of the horizon. It feels more like a luxury restaurant than a cruise ship banquet hall.
Palomar
Mediterranean Seafood
Debuted on Prima. A high-end seafood restaurant featuring whole fish preparations and a Greek-inspired menu.
Cagney's
Steakhouse
NCL's signature steakhouse. On Prima, it features a refreshed design with modern lighting but keeps the classic Angus beef menu.
Le Bistro
French
The most elegant room on the ship. Features floor-to-ceiling crystal chandeliers. Perfect for a romantic "date night."
Hasuki
Teppanyaki
The evolution of NCL's Teppanyaki. A refined space for the classic "dinner and a show" hibachi experience.
Los Lobos
Mexican
Upscale Mexican cuisine (not Tex-Mex). Known for its tableside guacamole and extensive tequila selection.
The Local
Pub & Grill
24/7 comfort food. Located on Deck 8 with outdoor seating. The place for late-night wings or an early breakfast.
Where It Sails
Norwegian Prima is a globetrotter, spending summers in Northern Europe and winters in the Caribbean.
- 10/11-Night Northern Europe (Iceland/Norway)
- 7-Night Caribbean (Great Stirrup Cay)
- New York to Bermuda (Seasonal)
The Northern Europe itineraries are particularly strong for this ship, as the observation lounges and glass walls provide great views of cooler climates.

Cost Reality
Prima is a premium product within the NCL fleet. Expect fares to be higher than ships like the Encore or Bliss.
- Indulge Food Hall & Hudson's
- The Drop (Dry Slide)
- Splash Academy (Kids)
- Infinity Beach Pools
- Prima Speedway ($15/ride)
- Galaxy Pavilion Games
- Mandara Spa Pass
- Starbucks / Vibe Beach Club
The observation lounge (Deck 17 forward) is free, huge, and often empty during port days. It's the best spot on the ship for quiet reading.
The Vibe Check
Is this ship for you? It feels more like a W Hotel than a traditional cruise ship.
Modern, artistic, and slightly more subdued than the Breakaway class. It handles crowds better thanks to the smaller passenger count.
A mix of couples, younger families, and solo travelers. It attracts people looking for new hardware and better food.

The most exclusive address on board. Located aft, with a private sundeck, restaurant, and lounge. It is a true "ship within a ship."
