The Prodigy Verdict
Luxury on the Edge.
The Silver Cloud is unique in the Silversea fleet. Originally built as a classic luxury cruise ship, it underwent a massive reconstruction in 2017 to become an ice-class expedition vessel. This lineage is its superpower: it has larger suites, wider hallways, and more dining options (4 venues) than almost any other expedition ship of its size. It is designed for the traveler who wants to see Antarctica or the Arctic without sacrificing the white-glove service of a traditional luxury cruise. With a zodiac-to-guest ratio that allows for simultaneous landings, it balances comfort with capability.
- Transitioners: Travelers moving from classic luxury cruising to their first expedition.
- Space Seekers: Those who find typical expedition cabins too cramped.
- Service Lovers: Every suite, regardless of category, includes a butler.
- Hardware: The hull is from 1994. While safe, it may vibrate more in ice than the new Endeavour.
- Tendering: Operations can be slightly slower than on purpose-built X-bow ships with lower mudrooms.
- Formal Nights: There are none. The vibe is "elegant casual" even at dinner.
Basecamps
While the ship has luxury lounges, the "zones" are designed to facilitate exploration and observation.
Tor's Observation Lounge
The forward-facing lounge on the top deck. It offers 180-degree views and is the prime spot for spotting whales or polar bears while staying warm.
The Mudroom
The tactical center. Here, you don your boots and lifejackets before boarding the Zodiacs. It is efficiently designed to move groups quickly.
Pool Deck
A rarity on expedition ships. A large, heated swimming pool and whirlpools. Taking a dip while surrounded by icebergs is a signature moment.
Explorer Lounge
The lecture hall. Where the expedition team holds daily briefings and recaps. It features high-definition screens for sharing microscope imagery and photos.
Photo Studio
A dedicated workspace for photographers. It includes Macs and PC editing stations, and often hosts classes led by a professional photographer.
Connoisseur's Corner
An indoor/outdoor smoking lounge offering premium cigars and cognac. One of the few places on board where smoking is permitted.
Dining & Provisions
Silversea is known for its culinary excellence. Most venues are included, with premium wines poured freely.
The Restaurant
Main Dining
The main dining room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with open seating. The menu is international with Relais & ChΓ’teaux influences.
La Terrazza
Italian
Buffet by day, authentic Italian by night. The pasta is made fresh daily on board. It offers indoor and outdoor seating with wake views.
The Grill
Hot Rocks
An al fresco experience where guests cook their own steak, fish, or veal on 400Β°C volcanic rocks at the table.
La Dame
French Fine Dining
The highest level of gastronomy on board. An intimate, upscale venue serving a six-course French tasting menu. Reservations essential.
Where It Sails
Silver Cloud follows the sun and the ice, repositioning between the poles annually.
- Antarctica (Puerto Williams)
- Svalbard & Greenland
- The Kimberley (Australia)
Because of its ice class, it can push deeper into the ice than non-expedition ships. The "Antarctica Bridge" option allows you to fly over the Drake Passage, skipping the rough seas.

The Vibe Check
Is this ship for you? It is quiet, refined, and deeply focused on the destination.
Subdued elegance. You won't find casinos or loud music. The entertainment is a pianist in the lounge or an expert lecture on glaciology.
Well-traveled, affluent, and typically 55+. However, Antarctica expeditions attract a wider age range, including adventurous younger professionals.

Cabin Recon
Every stateroom is a suite, and 80% have private verandas. The decor is classic Silversea: marble bathrooms, Pratesi linens, and Etro bath amenities.
Vista Suite
A large picture window instead of a balcony. Excellent value for polar regions where it's often too cold to sit outside for long periods anyway.
Veranda Suite
The core experience. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to a teak veranda. Perfect for private photography of passing glaciers.
Owner's Suite
The ultimate apartment at sea. Features a separate living room, dining area, and immense balcony. Often booked by repeat Silversea guests.
