Parts of it, but far less than the photographs suggest. Disney left structures and dressing in place after filming in the early 2000s, and some of that is genuinely original - but the bay is exposed, tropical storms have taken much of it down over the years, and what stands now is a mix of surviving facades, weathered props, and local rebuilding. Cruising guides describe it frankly as shabby. Go for the bay itself, the Creole lunch at the restaurant, and the photograph, and treat the film set as a bonus rather than the reason for a ninety-minute round trip.
The Black Caribs, or Garifuna - and that is the most important story on the island. They were the descendants of Africans who reached St. Vincent by shipwreck and escape and intermarried with the indigenous Kalinago, and they fought the British for decades from the interior rather than from the sea, which is why a coastal fort faces the wrong way. Their paramount chief, Joseph Chatoyer, was killed in 1795 and is now the country's first National Hero. In 1797 the British deported the survivors, first to the islet of Balliceaux where around half died, and then to Roatan off Honduras - the origin of the Garifuna communities spread across Central America today. The fort's museum tells this; the entry is free.
The aviary at the Botanical Gardens, and realistically nowhere else on a cruise day. Amazona guildingii is found in the wild on St. Vincent and no other island on earth, and it is the national bird; the couple of dozen birds at the Gardens are mostly rescues from illegal collections. The wild population lives in the forested interior, and the Vermont Nature Trail is the place people go to look for them - but sightings there are genuinely hit and miss and best at first light, which no ship's schedule will give you. If the parrot is what you came for, the Gardens are already on most itineraries and cost very little.
Yes, and from the comfort of a car. The 2021 eruption sent pyroclastic flows down the valleys draining off the volcano and emptied the northern part of the island - roughly twenty thousand people were evacuated from the red zone and ash fell as far as Barbados and St. Lucia. The most striking legacy you can reach on a drive is the Rabacca Dry River on the northeast coast, a wide boulder-and-ash riverbed first carved by the 1902 eruption and re-scoured in 2021. A north-island drive takes in that and the black-sand coast, and asks nothing of you physically - which is the opposite of the summit hike.
Realistically no, not during a port day. Bequia is the only one within about an hour's ferry of Kingstown, which is why it is the one every guide mentions. Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, and Union Island are served by charter yacht or by air rather than by a convenient scheduled boat, and published day-sail itineraries to Mustique run most of the daylight hours - longer than a typical visit once you subtract all-aboard. The Tobago Cays, the picture everyone has in mind, are normally visited from Union Island at the far end of the chain, not from St. Vincent. Save them for a land vacation.
Yes - operators run trips along the calm leeward coast, where pilot whales, orcas, and several dolphin species are present year round and the best months are broadly December to April, with larger whales more likely in the late fall and winter. There is something you should know first, though: St. Vincent retains a legal traditional hunt, and Barrouallie on that same coast is a historic whaling village. Conservation programs have funded watching boats there as an alternative livelihood, but the hunt has not stopped, and guests on excursions have in the past witnessed a kill. Ask your operator directly if that would trouble you.
