— an embark/disembark terminal, not a mid-cruise port of call.
⚠️ Critical Insight:
Long Beach is NOT San Pedro. Every non-Carnival line (Princess, Royal Caribbean, NCL, Celebrity, MSC, Cunard) sails from the World Cruise Center in San Pedro, ~8 miles / 25-30 min west. Confirm your line before booking hotels, etc.
The legendary 1936 ocean liner — now a floating hotel and museum — is moored a 5-minute walk from the Dome. Tour her Art Deco decks, engine room, and famously "haunted" corridors; 2026 marks her 90th anniversary. General admission includes a free intro Embarkation tour plus 23+ exhibits.
Southern California's largest aquarium showcases 11,000+ animals — sea otters, sharks, penguins, and a walk-through lorikeet aviary — across the downtown waterfront, opposite the harbor. Book online for skip-the-line fast entry; it's cheaper and faster than the ticket booth.
Catalina Express ferries you from the Downtown Landing to charming, car-free Avalon in about an hour. Snorkel crystal coves, ride a glass-bottom boat, or explore town by golf cart. A full-day trip — book the earliest ferry and reserve ahead, as sailings sell out.
A breezy waterfront boardwalk of shops, patios, and a vintage carousel, with departure docks for harbor cruises, whale-watching, and pedal-boat or bike rentals. Sits opposite the Aquarium. Free to stroll — a relaxed option if you only have half a day before boarding.
"The Happiest Place on Earth" sits ~30 miles / 45-60 min away in Anaheim. Single-day tickets use demand-based pricing (higher on peak dates), so buy in advance for your chosen day. Best as a dedicated pre- or post-cruise day — do not attempt it on embarkation day.
The Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, and Universal Studios Hollywood theme park lie ~33 miles north. The Metro A Line links Downtown Long Beach to LA if you'd rather skip the drive. Plan a full day and beat rush-hour traffic in both directions.
Golden Rule: As a homeport, your deadline is the boarding cutoff on embarkation day — usually about an hour before the ship's evening departure. Greater-LA traffic is the wild card, and terminal check-in plus the security line also eat time. The boarding-close time is the LAST moment you can board — not when you should arrive.
