No - and this is the thing most people get wrong about the late stop. MSC closes all the beaches before sundown, and it does so in sequence, shutting the furthest ones first and Lighthouse Bay last. What stays open into the evening is the Lighthouse Bay end of the island: the bar, the shops, the music, and the light show, with the trams still running and the paths lit. So an evening at Ocean Cay means a drink and a show rather than swimming under the stars or lying on a distant strip of sand. Plan your beach time for daylight and drift back toward the lighthouse as the sun goes.
Neither, quite - the island is artificial, but MSC did not make it. It was dredged into being in the late 1960s as an industrial base for mining oolitic aragonite, the fine white sand the Bahamas are known for, and the deep channel and berth that let a large ship put its guests ashore by gangway were originally cut for bulk sand freighters. Mining stopped in the early 2000s and the site was left to rot. MSC took a hundred-year lease from the Bahamian government in 2015, cleared thousands of tons of scrap and industrial debris, and opened the island to guests in December 2019. The private paradise is a rehabilitated quarry.
It is a real designation, not a brand. The Bahamian government approved protected status for Ocean Cay and the waters around it in 2020, covering some sixty-four square miles, and in 2023 the conservation organization Mission Blue independently declared it a Hope Spot. That has practical consequences on your day: fishing is prohibited, and you may not remove coral, shells, or anything living from the water. The island's conservation center works on breeding heat-tolerant coral with university partners, so the reef you snorkel over is being actively restored rather than simply admired.
It is out on Paradise Sands, a deliberately quiet beach away from the busy end, and no - the credit does not travel. Treatments are given in massage cabanas right on the sand, with a short option and a couple of longer ones, and the island spa is run as a separate operation from the ship's spa, so an onboard spa package or Aurea experience credit will not be honored ashore. Book it as its own thing. The same beach also hosts sunrise yoga and a sunset silent-yoga session, which are the closest Ocean Cay gets to a quiet corner.
One is, and it is not obvious from the map. MSC lists seven guest beaches rather than the four zones most guides describe, and Ocean House Beach is reserved for Yacht Club guests, with its own restaurant, bar, and butler service; there is also a crew beach that is not for guests at all. The two the guides tend to miss are worth knowing about: Sunset Beach, which is the longest single stretch of sand on the island at over half a mile, and Paradise Sands, where the spa is. There is no adults-only beach - every guest beach is open to all ages.
Yes, and you do not need to spend a penny to do it. There are marked swim and snorkel zones with easy entry from the sand, and the productive water is generally around the rockier shoreline down by the lighthouse rather than in the middle of the calm lagoon - expect sergeant majors, small barracuda, and stingrays cruising a few yards out. Because the whole reserve is protected you are looking at recovering living reef rather than an installed attraction, so leave the coral and shells where they are. MSC asks guests to use reef-safe sunscreen, and bringing your own mask saves the rental fee.
Not reliably, and MSC says so plainly - the island kitchens offer vegetarian and vegan dishes, veggie burgers, salads, and gluten-free bread on request, but they state they cannot accommodate specific allergies and recommend that guests with them eat onboard, where the galley can. Kosher food is not available ashore either. This is less of a problem than it sounds, because your ship is tied up a few minutes' walk away and its buffet is open at points through the day. If allergies are a factor, plan to eat aboard and treat the island food as a bonus rather than the plan.
