Understanding CocoCay's Unique Setup

The Island: ~1 mile long, 1/3 mile wide. Berry Islands, Bahamas. 55 miles north of Nassau. Formerly Little Stirrup Cay.
Key Insight: This is a PRIVATE ISLAND—Royal Caribbean & Celebrity Cruises only. No local town, no taxis, no independent vendors. Everything is run by the cruise line. Ships DOCK directly—walk off the pier (~6min walk to Arrivals Plaza).

Where You'll Dock

  • North Pier: Ships dock directly (no tender)
  • Capacity: 2 ships simultaneously
  • Walk-off: Pier to Arrivals Plaza ~6min
  • Free tram runs every 15min (7 stops)

Island Zones

  • Thrill Side (Right): Waterpark, zipline, balloon
  • Chill Side (Left): Beaches, lagoon, snorkeling
  • Coco Beach Club: Premium area, south end
  • Hideaway Beach: Adults-only (18+), west

Getting Back to Your Ship: Private Island = Easier

Golden Rule: CocoCay is the easiest return of any port—your ship is docked right there. But do NOT ignore the all-aboard announcement. The ship WILL leave without you if you're on a far beach with no phone signal. Listen for horn blasts.

What Makes This Port Different:
  1. Ship is docked at the pier the entire day
  2. You can return to the ship anytime (lunch, nap, restock)
  3. Typical island hours: ~8am arrival to ~5-7pm departure
  4. All-aboard is usually 30-60min before departure

TIP: Set a phone alarm for 30min before all-aboard

Still Be Careful If:

  • On a shore excursion (boat trip off-island)
  • At far end of island (Chill Island/South Beach)
  • Waiting for tram during rush back
  • Drinking at swim-up bar (easy to lose track)

Walk Times to Pier:

  • Arrivals Plaza → Pier: 6min
  • Thrill Waterpark → Pier: 8min
  • Oasis Lagoon → Pier: 12min
  • Chill Island far end → Pier: 18min
