It requires two or more travelers organized and received by a travel agency registered in China, and everyone must leave on the same ship. Nothing in it grants an individual the right to wander off alone, and lines differ in what they allow. Ask yours in writing before you book anything independent, and check the National Immigration Administration for the current position rather than trusting a guide - this policy has changed repeatedly.
Because it is fresh, and fresh beer here does not come in bottles. Shops around the old town tap unpasteurized draft straight from the barrel into branded plastic bags, sold by weight rather than volume so that nobody can cheat you with foam, and you drink it through a straw or pour it out later. The modern Qingdao International Beer Festival runs for several weeks from around the middle of July, and its main sites are across the bay at Golden Sands Beach in the West Coast New Area and out at Century Square in Laoshan district - both a long way from the old-town cluster where the brewery and Dengzhou Road are. Getting there and back can eat most of a port day. Confirm the year's venues and dates before committing, and if the answer is no, the brewery and the beer street are open regardless.
