Getting Back to Your Ship: The Work-Backwards Method
Golden Rule:
Never plan to arrive "at the pier" at all-aboard time. Plan to be back in your cabin. Your ship's all-aboard time is the LAST moment you can board—not when you should arrive.
Step-by-Step Calculation Example:
-
All-aboard time:
5:00pm
-
Subtract security (15-20min):
4:40pm
-
Subtract travel time (Old Town = 15min walk):
4:25pm
-
Add safety buffer (20min):
4:05pm
RESULT: Leave Old Town by 4:05pm
-
Docked at Krievu Island (+40min)
-
Returning from Jūrmala (+60min)
-
First time in port (+20min)
-
Multi-ship day (shuttle queues)
Typical Travel Times:
-
Old Town → Main Pier: 10-15min walk
-
Art Nouveau District → Pier: 20-25min
-
Central Market → Pier: 20min
-
Jūrmala → Pier: 50-70min (train + walk)
